October 29th - November 2nd

Good afternoon Parents!
We have begun our second unit of inquiry for the year. It is called "Sharing the Planet," its central idea is that living things impact and depend upon their habitat. It is an inquiry into the components of habitats, how habitats are changing, and our responsibility to conserve habitats. Our field trip to the Houston Zoo helped the students to get excited about our new IB planner and we've continued to learn more about plants, animal groups, and food chains since then. Thank you to all of our gracious and patient chaperones!
Here are a few pictures from the last few weeks of school...

Hadley is reading the book called, "Winter's Tale" to the class since we have been learning a lot about different animals and their habitats.

Upcoming Events...
Our next field trip will be on Tuesday, November 20 to the Katy Prairie Conservancy. This will be towards the end of the unit, and we are hopeful that the students will be able to apply their new knowledge to better understand the form and function of our local, wild habitat. If you are interested in chaperoning this field trip, it will be a full day (8:30-2:30). Our class needs 3-4 chaperones for this field trip. Please let me know, as soon as possible, if you are interested so that we can make sure that you are cleared for VIPS. Thank you for all of your help and support!
I sent home a couple of Scholastic book orders at the beginning of the month. Please look over the catalogues (they are online, as well). If you'd like to purchase books for your home library, return the order form (with your child's name) and a check (made payable to Scholastic Book Clubs) by THIS Friday, October 26. I will place the order that morning and the books should arrive the following week.
If you have been collecting "Box Tops" at home, please send them to school this week, Friday is the collection day.
The last day of the first grading period was Friday, October 19. The grades on Gradespeed are current and accurate. Your child's report card will be sent home next Tuesday, October 30.
Next Wednesday, October 31 is (Halloween...and...) Field Day! Our class will be participating in the games from 8:45-10:45 am. If you would like to come to school that day and read a spooky Halloween book or help with a Halloween project, just let me know. I am open to any and all ideas! :)
