Happy
New Year Parents,
I
hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break with your families and friends. We
had a wonderful first week back at school. Next Tuesday, in your child’s
Tuesday Folders you will find a new reading goal sheet. On the sheet you will
be able to see what your child’s reading level was at the beginning of the year
(in green), their mid-year reading goal (in blue), their new reading level (in
green), and their new reading goal for the end of the school year.
Your
children have been working so hard and I am so proud of the work that they have
accomplished. On the top of the sheet I have included their new reading level,
accuracy rate, fluency rate (words per minute), and their comprehension (scale
of 1-5 questions answered correctly).
To be reading at an independent level in 2nd
grade at this point in the school year your child needs to be able to do the
following:
Accuracy at 95% or higher
Fluency at least adequate (50-100 WPM)
Comprehension on DRA at 4/5 or higher
