Week of April 15 - 19th

As we launched into this planner we considered the central idea and developed questions that would help guide us during our unit of study. Let me share with you soem of the questions from our Wonder Wall that launched our inquiry process.
 
Central Idea: Through media and technology, advertising influences our choices.
Lines of Inquiry:
How advertisers influence audiences
  • The positive and negative effects of advertising
  • The legal and morla responsibilities of advertisers
  • Questions we asked to launch our inquiry:
    • What are the steps in creating an adveritisng campaign?
    • What is our responsibility for making informed choices as consumers?
    • How do advertisers use auditory, language, and visual techniques to persuade?
    • What's our responsibility as an advertiser?

    Learning Objectives for this week:
    Reading - Main Idea
    Language Arts - Contractions
    Spelling - Vowels (aw, au, augh, al)
    Math - Compare prices and solve problems about price differences, dollar-and-cents notation
    Science - Changing states of matter, physical and chemical changes
    Social Studies - How advertisers influence audiences, the legal and moral responsibilities of advertisers, advertise Robert's Carnival through print radio (announcements), and televison (video) advertisments.
     
    Upcoming Events:
    Friday 4/19 - Four second graders from each second grade classrooms have been selected to participate in the International Parade with Ms. Ballard from 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM (from our class - Veda, Hadley, Theodore, and Baron)
